The Alzheimer's Association appropriate use recommendations for blood biomarkers in AD were published today, and presented at #AAIC2022. They outline how BBMs can be used already today in the clinic and trials, and what additional studies are needed. bit.ly/3ONYhdJ

Very happy that our paper is now out in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy where we show that higher levels of #myelin are associated with higher resistance against #tau pathology in #AlzheimersDisease. Many thanks to Michael Ewers Nico Franzmeier BioFINDER and others! alzres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Just out in Nat Rev Neurology! With Morelia Monje Mora, Ankita Batra, Lucy Xu. We review key discoveries & remaining questions to understand how myelin plasticity supports normal function & becomes dysregulated in neurological diseases. Check it out! In this study published in Nature Aging: nature.com/articles/s4358… we measured sTREM2 and the DAM2 markers AXL, MERTK, GAS6, LPL, CST7, SPP1 and CSF1 in the CSF of non-demented individuals, who underwent longitudinal amyloid-PET, tau-PET and cognitive assessment.

Our new paper shows polygenic risk score comprising 85 lead AD-risk SNPs to be associated with enhanced effect of amyloid on the rate of tau PET accumulation, and cognitive decline. Thanks to lead author Anna Rubinski & @rainermpg, Simon Frerich Nico Franzmeier tinyurl.com/576vd4um

My hunch is this new lesion connectome-predictive modeling approach by Jiefeng Jiang published yesterday in Nature Communications will become the next generation of lesion network mapping. Seems very promising at this early stage. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Clearly a setback for patients and the research community in Europe. We need to encourage a well-informed decision process by doctors and patients rather than blocking access. Leqembi | European Medicines Agency ema.europa.eu/en/medicines/h…

Combining synaptic PET & tau PET, we reveal a dual role of synaptic density in regional susceptibility to tau and downstream degeneration in Alzheimer's. Brain, doi.org/10.1093/brain/…. Special thanks to first author Ying Luan, and collaborators Fang Xie and Binyin Li.

Luan et al. used dual PET imaging to examine the relationship between synaptic density and tau pathology in AD. They show that synapse-rich regions are prone to tau accumulation and that tau contributes to synaptic loss both locally and in connected areas. tinyurl.com/bdefth7e
