We support the UN Secretary General @AntonioGuterres in his tireless efforts to achieve peace in all the conflicts and particularly in the Middle East. We deplore the unjustified attacks against him as well as the unacceptable number of casualties among UN humanitarian workers.

Yesterday, #KingdomNL’s Lise Gregoire-van Haaren spoke for #Benelux at UNGA debate on Sudan after Russia’s veto. SC PoC resolution would have strengthened civilian protection and supported political, humanitarian efforts. All must act for the Sudanese people, to end hostilities and save lives.

I welcome the announcement of a deal to secure a ceasefire & hostage release in Gaza. I commend the mediators — Egypt, Qatar & the USA — for their dedicated efforts in brokering this deal. I call on all to uphold their commitments & ensure that this deal is fully implemented.

At #UNSC debate on peaceful dispute settlement, KNL on behalf of the Benelux 1) called on all to respect international law with UN Charter & ICJ as a key pillar, 2) stressed UN’s central role in mediation and prevention, and 3)encouraged reform to ensure UN remains fit4purpose

Sudan is bleeding in silence. David van Weel came together with UK at the UN 🇬🇧🇺🇳, Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations, Ministers from across Europe and Africa, humanitarian leaders & Sudanese civil society to demand stronger action in response to the crisis in Sudan & to give a voice to its unseen heroes🙌

At the #G20 meeting during #UNGA80, @minpres Schoof underlined: A strong multilateral system underpins peace & prosperity. But to stay fit for purpose, we must protect, strengthen & reform it. Lasting peace is impossible without sustainable economic development, and vice versa🌍

20 years ago the #PBC was created to help peace endure. Since then, the world has changed drastically and reforms are urgent. 🇺🇳 At #UNGA80, David van Weel outlined #KNLinPBC’s efforts: peacebuilding financing, reform, supporting local-led peace & priorities like mental health.
