Useless to think you’ll park and capture it More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there, A hurry through which known and strange things pass As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways And catch the heart off guard and blow it open. Seamus Heaney ‘Postscript’

In an interview, Heaney said he and his wife had disagreed on getting a skylight for his writing space in the attic. "I came back from Harvard one time and went upstairs...there was a skylight! Actually, it was a tremendous change for me... I lifted up my eyes to the heavens!"

Cold rivers rise, restless, as though to say — you have come this far but not yet arrived, you have survived oceans of salt, try again, break surface here, fresh water awaits you, the ground is prepared. Do it. Eleanor Hooker

you have survived
oceans of salt,
