Times it can be reckoned, if gold, in troy -
Fine grains of love, filings of gentleness.
Or if sour black earth, in avoirdupois -

The word is brain, made flesh to hold debate.
The very cells of hunger saying yes:
But the poem is the heart, incarnate

In seeking to cope with the unavoidable impact of , Ireland had two reasonable goals - to avoid a hard border in Ireland & to retain Ireland’s place within the EU single market. ✔️✔️
Migration is a separate challenge, one that Ireland shares with others incl. the UK.

On St Patrick’s Day, as Brand Ambassador for the , I took part in the launch of the Carlichauns Adventure Trail at Dun Laoghaire. There was an enthusiastic response from those who tried the Augmented Reality App as this video shows. youtu.be/sJbN9DGB94I

And as for ‘arrogance’, what about the assumption rife among enthusiasts that the UK could leave the EU, but retain the benefits of membership; that the EU would bend to the UK’s demands. An arrogant .

Thank you to Michael Kenny for sending me a copy of his book, ‘Fractured Union’ Hurst Publishers. Interesting for me to read a book about the future of the UK that does not have its main focus on NI, but on the other island which makes up the vast bulk of the UK.

When I picture her now she is grinding
lapis lazuli in some scriptorium
by starlight, by her own light, in the shine
of the moon, mixing to a blue rapture

her sorrows, her angers. She is minding
her language, in the midst of alarums,
of sirens, of danger.

I missed this very positive review of ‘Pilgrim Soul: WB & the Ireland of his Time’ from the Waterford News&Star. “Mulhall’s thesis is the manner in which radically changing Irish politics shaped Yeats as a poet, as a man …” The reviewer describes the book as “a compelling read”

At a time of immense suffering across the Middle East, inspiring to see the enthusiasm, commitment and talent of these Palestinian students.

Having visited UNRWA schools in the West Bank, Gaza and Jordan over the last 5 years, my admiration for their work only grows

Just got a copy of my Institute of Politics students’ report on the study group I conducted there during the Fall Semester last year with the theme, ‘Can the Centre Hold’. It brings back happy memories of @Harvard and the many fine people I met there.

When will you realise that this whole thing is done and dusted? London and Brussels have done a deal and no amount of bellyaching will change that. The WF is in force and everyone is moving on. No one in authority wants to reopen those issues that took so long to resolve.

Lie down Charlie
As the night comes down.
Lie down,
Do not presume
To make a mock of all that serious dark
Piled up for miles above your brittle head.
Silence that spurious chat,
the wind is talking.

My favourite line from the report of my Study Group comes from an unnamed member of my student team who is quoted after our last session together asking - ‘how will we survive without Greta?’
