To dandelions everywhere, I want to issue a very public apology for missing #InternationalDayoftheDandelion yesterday. I’m SO sorry! This is not a reflection of my feelings for you. I love you dearly & continue to sing your praises. Forgive me.
Wildflowers, not weeds 🌼💛

There is a great irony that I am confronted with often in my work Natural History Museum : 1. we are in a biodiversity crisis, awareness of the decline in biodiversity is rising, engagement with nature is very high through apps, websites, entertainment, even a GCSE in Natural History..

What's that you say? You want a tiny, highly sculptured #beetle for your Friday afternoon? Look no further! Found this miniscule #Metophthalmus ( #Latridiidae ) in our collection from Oregon USA collected 1965. What a superb insect - too bad it eludes the attention most people 🔎🧐
Evelyn Cheesman #DiedOnThisDay in 1969. She was a British entomologist and traveller who collected over 70,000 specimens on her travels.
Solanum cheesmaniae, a species of a wild tomato is named in her honour.
