Save the date!! next #NYRIA #Workshop, it is designed to encourage early career #researchers (i.e. final year Bachelor students to post-doctoral researchers), working in ground-based, visible and infrared #instrumentation for #astronomy

Donut time! It's almost too bad that the black hole of M87 was imaged first, we knew the one at the center of our galaxy would look similar (reconstructed image) as it's much closer but also smaller, therefore angularly of about the same size. Well done EHT teams! #SrgABlackHole

And another BH image, or I should call "glowing gas around a Black Hole", this is a reconstructed image of data taken by 8 (now 11) radio observatories across the world, data taken during multiple nights in 2017 and processed in a correlator.

Thr first part of MOONS is officially on the telescope! Now we need to align the corrector to the telescope to make sure everything is well centred.

I know everyone is super interested in the eclipse photos right now, but the day before the "blood moon" I captured this: One of my most detailed pictures of our star. This was done using a specially modified telescope and involved taking around 70,000 individual pictures.
