That is, after I’ve negotiated my way through this barrier to access. This is a walking, wheeling and cycling route to a school on NCN535. Utterly bewildering. 7/20

And this is why the West should be deeply concerned by this chart. Held back by fossil lobbyists, electrification is being made too slow and too expensive in most western countries.

Spending on MPs' expenses and staff costs amounts to about £150m each year (0.01% of all spending). Why do people think that MPs' expenses are in the top three spending items, when they're not in the top three hundred?

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money and pollution. Via UITP

Scientists developed the first climate models in the late 1960s (for which the Nobel Prize in physics was recently awarded!). How have these models held up against what happened in the real world after they were published? Surprisingly well, it turns out:

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Did you know there's about 400 parts per million (ppm) of caffeine in coffee? There's over 400 ppm of CO₂ in our atmosphere today. If you've felt the surge of caffeine hitting your system, you've experienced the effects of just 400 ppm.

~45% of US corn production is now used to make ethanol, mostly for mixing into gasoline. That's ~13% of all US crop land already used for energy production. Using some of the same land for solar panels would capture 50-100 times more energy per acre.
