#NMGLeadershipForum is time that Kenya Revenue Authority consider to start subtracting tax incentives (money it would have otherwise collected) from the revenue targets given to them by the Treasury? It's time KRA does impact analysis of tax incentives to its revenue target.

In our #Covid19 research women in Nairobi informal settlements reported a 20% increase in time spent collecting water since the pandemic began. We call on Nairobi Metropolitan Services, NMS and NairobiCounty to improve water infrastructure and relieve poor women’s time from #unpaidcarework #HowICare

@oxfaminKE @fiscallawafrica @TheDispatch254 1. I always loved working on issues of raising living standards especially of the poor and vulnerable. I began trying to understand how to achieve it and soon realised that although people think there is a need for societal change they do not always think about the financing.

Attiya Waris (@attiyawaris) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@oxfaminKE @fiscallawafrica @TheDispatch254 2. So it began with my doctoral journey linking raising living standards with tax and slowly has widened and deepened into all areas of state finance and how to improve lives

Attiya Waris (@attiyawaris) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@oxfaminKE @fiscallawafrica @TheDispatch254 3. I then began trying to see how Kenya was in this discussion and soon saw that people had little or no information. Over the past 15 years I continued to look at other countries around the world and realised many developing and lack public financial information

Attiya Waris (@attiyawaris) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@oxfaminKE @fiscallawafrica @TheDispatch254 4. This when I realized the need for a book that simply explains issues and unpacks what people perceive is a complex topic. Since literacy is improving in Africa, we now need fiscal literacy to improve as well

Attiya Waris (@attiyawaris) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@oxfaminKE @fiscallawafrica @TheDispatch254 5. I hope the most important audience all Africans no matter where the live will read to understand the challenges we face but also to see that we all belong and we need to help each other build a better continent with better quality life. Hold all stakeholders to account.

It is with mixed emotions that I share some personal news: after 15 years at #OECD, I have decided to step down as Director of OECD Tax. This is the outcome of a long reflection and I feel privileged to have served this unique Organisation & its members for so many years.

Support from WorldBank & aid donors 4 domestic revenue mobilization in low-&middle-income countries has ⬆️ but not enough attention to tax fairness, poverty reduction or gender justice. #DRM should promote sustainable dev., not raise revenues by any means policy-practice.oxfam.org/resources/does…
