WW1 Cork Harbour Trail - Developed by Cork County Council, the Trail explores the significant history of Cork Harbour during World War 1.
No 8 is The American Pier - a historical landmark and valuable amenity for swimmers. It needs repair now or more than the Trail disappears!

A great last sunrise of 2023 swim in Whitepoint. Lots of people joining together for a quick dip to raise awareness that The American Pier needs to be fixed NOW! Generous funding streams are available to add to what our Community has already secured. Who can help get this done?

With shelter provided by the point of Whitepoint, tomorrow morning's weather looks good for a quick dip, followed by some warming treats. The plan is for everyone who's going in to go in at 8.30am!!

We started 2023 with a very fun swim event at Whitepoint. As a community we've created huge awareness of the history and value of The American Pier. Please join us on the last day of 2023 for our Polar Bear Swim. Hot drinks available after, but please bring treats! Please share!

Great news! The ever increasing number of swimmers in Whitepoint have a shower!
Thanks to Cobh Tidy Towns🌻 for getting the shower made here in Cobh and to a Cork County Council local crew for installation. Just need the finance to repair the pier now.

We won! The Big American Swim, Heritage Week Event won the County Award for Cork at the National Heritage Week 2023 Awards. Community participation played such a role in an interesting, fun and social event that highlighted the value of and why the American Pier must be repaired.

An important day for our campaign to repair the American Pier as the case is made to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to secure the quite modest funding to make this happen. Thank you to Cllr Sinéad Sheppard for organising the meeting with some of Cobh's Community Groups.

Repairing The American Pier is essential to preserve this outdoor recreational amenity in Cobh. There is fantastic community support and financial resources pledged for the project. An Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme application by Cork County Council can make this happen.

With up to 100% funding available from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme to repair The American Pier, making a strong application to do this work is the right thing to do. Cork County Council the community is firmly behind this project. irishexaminer.com/news/munster/a…

A fabulous National Heritage Week Community event supported by Cork County Council at Whitepoint today. Focusing on the significant U.S. Navy history associated with Cobh between 1917 and 1919 of which the American Pier is the only physical reminder in Cobh and the amenity value of the pier since.

A fascinating Titanic Trail walking tour on a beautiful evening with Dr Michael Martin in aid of the American Pier Cobh. Not to be missed if you are visiting Cobh or live in Cobh and have never done it. Happy 4th July to all of our American followers.

Fabulous photo from the Cork Archives of an earlier version of The American Pier. The original blocks are visible on the Eastern side of the current pier, which was built atop. The new pier was widened, so only in places of extreme erosion can they be seen on the Western side.

Whitepoint - a great place for rest and recreation!

A simple historical account describing the swimming amenity at Whitepoint. Little has changed except that the facilities have deteriorated. With help from Cork County Council and others we can remedy that!
