Well, that was a frantic day in the life of a court observer! Please, lawyers and judges, don't underestimate the challenges we have overcome just to get into the courtroom to observe your hearings! #openjustice #NotSecretCourt openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/07/29/a-d… via Open Justice Court of Protection Project

These are superb learning opportunities - highly recommended. Observing a hearing could be an innovative & valuable reflective piece for revalidation Nursing and Midwifery Council

What do judges do when P needs a decision as soon as possible - but making the *right* decision needs more evidence and more time? #OpenJustice #NotSecretCourt openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/08/04/bal… via Open Justice Court of Protection Project

I'm looking forward to meeting people interested in observing Court of Protection hearings and sharing the joys and challenges of getting access and trying to understand what's going on in court. All welcome. Email and ask for the link!

Some fascinating feedback on this blog post from people who've been there too. A court hearing and 23 visits from 16 officials: Family doubt that ‘Deprivation of liberty’ is working in the public interest  openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/08/07/a-c… via Open Justice Court of Protection Project

My first experience of being an in-person observer at First Avenue House (London): HHJ Beckley decides on where P should live and receive care openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/08/18/my-… via Open Justice Court of Protection Project

The MoJ Transparency & Open Justice Board wants us to have"timely + effective access" to the court. In this new blog, claire martin charts the on-the-ground practical obstacles to achieving transparency, despite judges' best efforts. openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/08/25/tim… via Open Justice Court of Protection Project

“The problems are systemic as the whole justice system seems to be unravelling without sufficient staff or resourcing.” Another excellent blog from claire martin, exposing multiple issues. Including a heavy listings burden on district judges. Do they have time to read the bundles?

*Open justice help needed* I recently requested a copy of a judgment. I have been joined as a respondent and have been asked to make written and oral submissions in due course There is the possibility of an anonymity order being imposed on a party

Celia Kitzinger (@kitzingercelia) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Most striking revelation here is that *judges* are trying to be transparent + disclose court docs to observers, and the system is failing them. Requests don't reach them in time, docs are submitted late, HM Courts and Tribunals Service don't respond to judicial request in timely way. This is grim.

An interesting hearing before Lieven J, who addressed the issues in the case with characteristic frankness. And this is another case where a judge has really got into what a deprivation of liberty order should be for

Amanda Hill (@amandaaphill) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Another excellent blog from Daniel Clark. Lieven J speaks frankly in this hearing including “That’s not a DOL!” She also said “it’s extremely good when members of the public attend..it’s important the wider world know’s what’s going on in cases like these 👏 Open Justice Court of Protection Project
