The best advice I can give when troubleshooting is to not get frustrated. Stay calm. Tell the client everything is fine you’re just figuring it out because you are.

There are multiple places the problem can exist. Sometimes it’s the first one you check sometimes it’s the last. Losing your cool is unhelpful. Even when people are putting pressure on you. You still have to take the steps.

Our job is to give our clients the best product we can and reassuring them that is your goal during the process eases everyone’s tension. Because as engineers we know that it doesn’t always make sense but we can always figure it out.

I’ve been on calls for hours with other professional engineers trying to figure out an issue. Turning every stone just do something random that doesn’t make sense to either of us and now everything works. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It doesn’t matter how you got there. Just that you didn’t give up and you kept your head straight. As soon as the problem resolves itself you get right back to work and because you kept the vibe light it’s easy for those moments to be forgotten.

Last but not least. If you need help. ASK. Even the best of us can use another head when troubleshooting tricky situations. There’s no ego here. Just the goal of getting the session moving again and keeping the client happy.
