Highly recommend ๐Ÿ‘Œ Completing a Graduate Certificate in Education with what I'm passionate about made the biggest difference to my teaching career. Passionate teachers need to stay passionate or we burn out. 8 yrs ago now when I retrained in Learning Difficulties & SoR/SoL ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช

The power of systematic, synthetic phonics instruction right here ๐Ÿ‘‡ Let's make it happen for all children in every school in Australia ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’›

"Teach the behaviour you want to see..." That's EDI of social and emotional skills, sooooo key for improved classroom learning and student wellbeing. Kids need boundaries!! And a lot of love with it. Thanks Tom Bennett Training for the lighthearted reminder on The Project ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’›

โ€œYou reduce a lot of cognitive load when schools are set up with really specific norms around how behaviour is managed..." Charlotte Peverett (she/her) ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฆ  ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ’‰ says mainstream teachers have much to learn about behaviour management from special educators. educationhq.com/news/its-our-bโ€ฆ

Great episode addressing some MTSS misconceptions: "Screening & diagnostic don't overlap. Screeners must be short & predictive. Diagnostic tests are specific, usually not timed & are linked to instruction, telling you what to teach next. E.g. PAST is not a screener" Stephanie Stollar

๐Ÿ˜ž We need to help our Australian young people and those struggling with device or social media addiction... Something more prevalent in neurodiverse groups and apparently in 15-year-old girls ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’”

That's the problem with online teacher resources now - they can still sell what DOES NOT help children learn to read and spell effectively. My old school was using this, with good intentions, just a few years ago ๐Ÿ˜ž Bring on the Decoding Dragon instead - first and foremost #SoR

The evidence shows a consistent, whole-school approach to classroom management works best. Students know what to expect, teachers know what to do, schools are calmer. Thanks to St Clare's College, Dr Tim McDonald and Jenny Donovan for speaking with me. canberratimes.com.au/story/8636095/โ€ฆ

When I worked in a small, rural primary school, just over 1 hours drive out of Canberra, I provided intervention or support to 75% of students. This is WAY above the 25% statistic everyone quotes for Aussie kids. We need to update the stats and get $$ + professionals out there ๐Ÿ™

Itโ€™s been fabulous to watch Charlestown South PS and other schools in the EAST Network go from strength to strength, demonstrating that explicit teaching is effective for all students. This approach is now being promoted in all NSW Public Schools. smh.com.au/national/nsw/tโ€ฆ
