Corn lilies are one of my favorite spring plants that grow in the Rocky Mountains, typically in high, moist meadows. I like them at this early stage when the leaves create a beautiful pattern of gentle texture and lines.

Tancho and Arashiyama | Colorado | 2022 Latest images in my photo montage (composite) series. The first one is titled "Tancho" which means Japanese crane due to the feather-like patterns in the image. The second one is "Arashiyama" after the famous bamboo grove in Japan.

Ice plant or Kanji? Ice crystals from this past cold winter. A fleeting moment captured handheld from my dining room window which faces north. It reminds me of Kanji which constitutes one of the systems to write Japanese language. A friend said it was an ice plant.

When a photographer posts a photo without the location noted, this is not an invitation to say the location in the comments because you know it. “What is…” we are not playing Jeopardy! but some locations are unfortunately in jeopardy. #socialmedia NatureFirstOrg

On 9/23 I will be the subject of an "ask me anything" over on NPN. NPN is my favorite site and if you're into nature photography you should join us over there. It's a great place for conversation, critique, and learning. Hope to see you! npn.link/amamattpayne

New photography podcast is up with Jeff Freestone - Jeff is one of my favorite photographers from Australia and we had a great chat about his journey. Jeff has been heavily influenced by The Minimalists and has changed his whole life because of it. 1/2
