It would be nice to start calling out the cowardice of educational leaders once in a while in these situations. They know better, collect a substantially bigger paycheck than teachers to “lead” schools and districts, but usually end up sacrificing teachers to remain in power.

Here’s the thing: this isn’t just about pushing nonsense into the schools. This is about changing the very meaning of public education—from a system that advances our *shared* interests, to one that advances our individual *private* values. This is part of a bigger play.

Avg civics scores are the same as they were in 1998 & 2006. Avg history scores are just one point lower than 1994, 2 points lower than 2001.

'Kids these days' has become an industry unto itself. I'm tired of education 'journalism' treating learning like a stock ticker.

In which I say: these laws are awful. There is no doubt. But we risk doing their work for them if we run away from teaching the truth.

Suppressing factual history related to race and racism has consequences. We are better than policies of denial. Hoosiers deserve an education that is factual.

Stop worrying about how people protest, and start worrying about the reasons why people protest. Stop asking private citizens for care and restraint when government funded actors show none.
