One of my constituents, Claire Throssell, tragically lost her 12 and 9-year-old after their father set her house on fire.  Alex Davies-Jones MP will soon be meeting with Claire and I to discuss how we can protect children from domestic abuse in our criminal justice system.

‘The professional standards include that social workers must be able recognise the risk indicators of different forms of abuse and neglect and their impact on people, their families and their support networks’. I remain unconvinced. questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questi…

It is very hard to express my horror at this decision by Mrs Justice Lieven to order in-person, 3 x a year prison contact to a police officer father convicted of twice raping his partner, the children's mother.

Just in case anyone thinks that men’s perpetration of sexual violence, using drugs and alcohol to immobilise, make vulnerable, or overpower women and then rape them and film this, is exclusive to France, here is a story from Australia: abc.net.au/news/2024-09-2…

As the world watches on in disgust at the trial against the men who raped Gisele Pelicot, please remember that rapists know exactly what they’re doing. The man who raped me told me his “temporary pleasure” was worth more than my “temporary pain”. They know, yet they do it anyway.

The thing about ’child poverty’ is that it is poverty. A child lives in poverty because the significant adults in their lives live in poverty. Stop addressing child poverty as a distinct form of poverty. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Nothing has changed since this horrific example of family court failure. There is still an assumption that DA magically disappears upon separation Paul and Jack were murdered by their abusive father. Why had the family courts granted him contact? theguardian.com/society/2024/o…

Parental alienation has become a damaging tool in family courts, one that abusers often exploit to discredit survivors and undermine their experiences of domestic abuse. We’re advocating for critical changes in how our justice system approaches these claims.

My concerns: - There was never a FFH. - Upon what {limited} evidence was it decided not to have a FFH? - Despite no FFH or determination of M’s allegations, who decided they are “false?” - M’s “consent” to transfer…is it really consent? Or a woman worn down into compliance?

Reading the newly disclosed documents from the family court cases involving Sara Sharif - my assessment is that her death was an inevitable consequence of a family justice system that simply refuses to recognise, let alone acknowledge, the true risks posed by domestic abusers.
