In 1990 a tiny tribe of Native Americans donated some blood samples to researchers at Arizona State University, to try and understand their soaring rates of diabetes. The controversy that followed went on to shape Native American DNA research and modern bioethics.

I knew, but didn’t fully appreciate until reading this NYT Magazine piece by Linda Villarosa about the dangers of hair relaxers, how my parents truly protected my health and well-being! They encouraged my sister and me to love our natural hair despite anti-Black messaging everywhere.

This is wild. Her “investigative report” was just an AI search. Black historians have been telling this story for years. There’s a whole chapter in my book about it w/endnotes to the maps she claims she couldn’t find bc they didn’t pop up on Google. Apparently, nothing exists

If you keep talking about the assassination attempt don’t you dare tell the kids who survive school shootings and their families to “just get over it” What happened today is unacceptable and what happens every day to kids who aren’t the president and don’t survive isn’t either.

Usha's body of work is an urgent record of the things that many would rather keep invisible: racism, negligence & discrimination in science and medicine -- and the sluggishness when it comes to fixing these health inequities. This award is so well-earned.

If he had purchased Coca-Cola & rebranded it "Plorba-Griznik", everyone would still call it Coke. It's Twitter, plain & simple. We tweet, we don't X-crete. The End

🎓 Dr. Susan graduated at the top of her class and returned home in 1891 to fulfill her dream of providing medical care to the Omaha people. In August 1891, she treated 111 patients! Her drive inspires us through the final phase of restoration. Stay tuned for updates!
