My team and I are safe. I am in disbelief. I can’t believe domestic terrorists are roaming around inside the Capitol. I’m remembering being brutalized and treated like a domestic terrorist just for protesting to keep my people alive. St. Louis: you’re in my heart right now.

The insurrectionists were attempting to kill the first and second people in line to succeed the President and to prevent Congress from certifying the President’s electoral defeat. Sorry Republicans, but we’re not “moving on” from this anytime soon.

Calling for the removal—through mechanisms written into the Constitution—of a President who enabled and incited an armed attempt to subvert the constitutional verification of his electoral defeat is “equally irresponsible” to the President’s enabling and incitement? Yeah... no.

In 2019, a man shot 23 people in El Paso, claiming to be inspired by Trump’s words. It was the deadliest attack on the Latino community in modern history. It’s a shame some lawmakers didn’t see Trump for what he is until they were put in danger themselves by his actions.

There’s an argument going around that Congress can’t impeach/remove *former* officers. If that were true, then the constitutional power to *disqualify* them from future office would be a nullity; officers could avoid it by resigning moments before the Senate votes to remove them.

"What claim will you have? That you rule over a destroyed society? That the ashes belong to you?" @aoc on the nihilism of white supremacist violence.

My heart breaks with all the stories I’ve heard this week about violence perpetrated against Asian folks here in the Bay. Nobody deserves to be hurt in this way. The truth is, for the last four years we’ve had a leader who has trafficked in racist stereotypes about Asians.

Our hope is that this verdict will be a small step towards accountability. But that’s just about accountability, not justice. For us, justice would be George Floyd alive today.

Derek Chauvin is a convicted murderer. That’s good. But this is a not a case of a few bad apples. The system itself is broken. Let’s find the courage as a nation to fix it. RIP George Floyd.

Can we all sing a praise song for Darnella Frazier who had the presence of mind to film that video that made such a difference in this case and now must live with the memories that will walk alongside her for the rest of her years

.Andrea Senteno (@maldef): "As the growth of the Latino population expands, states and localities have worked to slow the registration and participation of new voters, and thus MALDEF’s work in voting rights continues to increase."

My first time providing Congressional testimony - grateful for the opportunity to speak on an important issue for Latino voters and the need for Congress to protect everyone’s right to vote!

Someone killed 14 children and 1 teacher at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. I’m wholly devastated. We live in a society where power absolutely refuses to protect our children. How many more kids have to die before power makes radical changes to these horrific conditions?

A senseless act of gun violence took the lives of 19 children & 2 teachers in the mostly-Latino community of Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts are w/ #Uvalde. "The Latino community needs sensible gun control now," says MALDEF Pres. Thomas Saenz. Full statement: maldef.org/ut52522

It's "clearly evident" that LA City Council member Nury Martinez should resign, and "so should her colleagues Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo," says NALEO Educational Fund CEO Arturo Vargas. "There is no room in public service for racist attitudes and expressions."
