#OTD in 1865, Captain Henry Wirz, the former commandant of Camp Sumter (a.k.a. Andersonville Prison) is hanged in Washington, D.C. Wirz had been found guilty of war crimes by a US military tribunal. He is one of only a few Confederates so charged and punished after the #CivilWar.
