This unique plaque at Antietam National Cemetery commemorates four soldiers from the Irish Brigade, whose partial remains were discovered near the Sunken Road in 1988 and reinterred here in 1989. They attacked the Confederate position on Sept. 17, 1862.

Antietam battlefield guide and Institute member Steve Stotelmyer gave a talk on Sunday about his new book, “From Frederick to Sharpsburg,” at Antietam Creek Vineyards. It’s about the 1862 Maryland campaign BEFORE Antietam. Tremendous research. And good wine!

View of historic Harpers Ferry, WV from Maryland Heights! Disappointed that today’s hike to the top with the Antietam ambassadors was postponed because of rain, but this is what it looks like from the heights on a good, clear day. Incredible sight!
