A new study demonstrated that ovipositor length, width, and stoutness differed between two parasitoid #wasps which attack #Drosophila suzukii: doi.org/10.3897/jhr.95… Nathan Earley Dr Chandra Moffat 🐞🌿 she/her UBC Okanagan #biocontrol #hymenoptera #insects
I'm so chuffed to see this article published!!! And I can't think of a more fitting venue than Entomological Society of Canada for our Diplolepis #gall research. Special thanks to Dr. Bob Lalonde UBC Science Okanagan for his mentorship and support as my Honours supervisor.
My sister started her MSc research today. I’m nearly a year into my PhD. Here we are in 2003 — the last time grad students and post docs in Canada got a raise. Graduate researchers deserve a livable wage. #SupportOurScience Chrystia Freeland Justin Trudeau
Hey Ologies is on blooski! Have you ever considered an episode on “cecidology” - the study of galls! #Galls are amazing abnormal growths of plant tissues (sort of like a tumor) induced by various viruses, fungi, bacteria, insects & mites.
Back in Victoria after 2 weeks of alpine invertebrate sampling in the Kootenays. Epic trip with the Royal BC Museum folks with lots of talk of museum specimens and iNaturalist. Despite our best efforts we also saw some vertebrates… including great looks at this Prairie Falcon!!
A RARE bird was found in Squamish yesterday and I wanted to go look for it… But I forgot my binoculars in Victoria 😱 Never fear, Burnaby Public Library is here! My partner’s library card got us a backpack with Vortex Optics binoculars and field guides galore! This is one of 23 such kits 🤩
My 10,000th observation and 2,500th species on iNaturalist… what a rad liverwort! inaturalist.ca/observations/1…
This is a fun thing for community science data users to do for contributors. It was an absolute pleasure birding in India and I’m glad to have contributed to State of India's Birds’s 2023 report.
We found a new weevil for Canada (first IDed to genus through iNaturalist)… it was a heck of a ride getting it to species. Congrats @tyler_nelz Hester Williams Dave Ensing Dr Chandra Moffat 🐞🌿 she/her et al!
The fastest animal in the world dropping rocks at a colleague… sounds like a natural history note to me! Check out our article “Rocks Dropped by a Peregrine Falcon for Eyrie Defense” in JRR Raptor Research Foundation: doi.org/10.3356/jrr2385
