We think about the economic case for regional and sub-regional planning often, but there is an ecological imperative too 🌍🌱

"The biggest opportunity may not be in large sites, but in intelligent retrofitting and redevelopment, adapting existing buildings and working outward from high streets and neighbourhood centres..." Richard Rogers (2014). A great architect for working with what we've got.

Very grateful to have been part of the Sig. Temistocle Bembo Autumn 2020 cohort. An incredible group of people with which to experience my first year in #localgovernment - thanks also to the Public Practice team for their non-stop enthusiasm and guidance.

Just fell down a rabbit hole trying to work out why Rutland exists. Was a detached part of Notts, but sometimes referred to as a county in its own right since the 1100s. Yet I can't help but suspect the promotion of the local peer from Earl to Duke was a factor.

Pitting #towns against #cities ignores the fact that city economies benefit towns and towns benefit cities. A recent Centre for Cities study from Paul Swinney explores this relationship, challenging the unhelpful towns vs cities political narrative 👇 centreforcities.org/publication/do…
