There is no shared decisions in maternity care particularly when the decisions are about a woman’s body. Only a woman can make decisions about her body. Maternity professionals provide information to support the decision making process but the woman makes the final decisions.

Big shout-out to my male physician colleague who, after overhearing our ICU patient’s family call me “the nurse” for 3rd day in a row, said “ you need to know Dr Shaw is your dad’s doctor, & she’s also my boss” #HeForShe #WomenInMedicine

Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland&Demark have much ⬇️Caesarean section rates than these&lose⬇️mothers&babies than anywhere else in the world, so your logic does not add up. Toxic cultures are the issue not vaginal birth&until people stop the politics you won’t solved the problems

Such a shame that this gold standard of midwifery care isn’t being utilised during such critical times when the service can’t meet the needs of women. Who’s with women now? Women are suffering and fearful and planning to birth alone. 😔 @TeamCMidO Royal College of Midwives 💙 Better Births London

Independent Midwife @chilledmamacath Royal College of Midwives 💙 Nursing and Midwifery Council It’s outrageous! I’ve never met a woman who hasn’t had a positive birth experience with an IM. Safety is always sighted as a priority in Maternity yet women are being left to birth at home alone ? It doesn’t need to be this way. Seriously worrying! x.com/quashiemichell…

Good reason to keep healthy women and newborn babies away from the hospital and support them to birth at home? If struggling to staff that service why not take the support that IMUK are offering? On this special day we’ve welcomed 3 beautiful babies safely into the world and all before breakfast! Fantastic teamwork from community and hospital staff, who ensured we could support all the women to stay at home. 7 homebirths in 7 days! #fullmoon

Saw a woman at home yesterday who was so upset that the words ‘failure to progress’ had been documented in her birth summary. The language we use needs to change in #midwifery Milli Hill 💕Sheena Byrom she/her 💕 East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust 💙

None of this would be possible without the tireless work of patient groups, whose bravery in coming forward with their stories and in many cases advocating on behalf of others who have experienced similar hardships, has been truly exceptional. #ReviewReports #FirstDoNoHarm 2/2

Today is WHO World patient safety day. ⠀ We will be sharing Black women’s experiences to show that they are not always treated well or given the right information to advocate for themselves. There will also be a few positive stories too. #fivexmorepatientsafety #fivexmoreaw20
