6th June, 1944, D-Day: 17,500 Royal Marines from 41, 45 Commando RM, 46, 47 Commando (Raiding Group) Royal Marines, and 48 Cdo took part in the Normandy Landings, the largest deployment of the Corps ever. They assaulted the beaches, operated landing craft and manned Royal Navy bombarding guns. Per Mare, Per Terram.
The 77th anniversary of D-Day has this morning been marked with a ceremony at the Commonwealth War Graves’s Bayeux War Cemetery in Normandy. Following the ceremony, British Ambassador to France and Monaco Ed Llewellyn had these poignant words to say about our work. #DDay77
