There are really only three choices for a food system 1) pay more for food and insist that farmers do their work in very nature friendly ways - this tends to screw the poor on limited income

James Rebanks (@herdyshepherd1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

2) let farms do whatever they must to make food very cheap and then do some nature round their work with subsidies for nature work… this screws nature, unless the repair investment exceeds the damage…

We chose option 2 - and the this goverment killed it (after the last failed to fund it sufficiently to provide NET GAIN) The current goverment says option 3 has to happen now And magically we will have enough nature - it’s BS, we won’t

Same here I asked some people to put their dogs on a lead yesterday and got a load of backchat Dog walkers don’t know where their dogs will stress sheep or wildlife like ground nesting birds - locals do But they won’t listen

The UK Government promised a planning system that works for people & nature. But as it stands, this Bill risks fast-tracking nature’s destruction. We’ve joined others calling for urgent change. Nature mustn't be written out of our future. 🚨

#Turtledove to be shot for sport again across Western Europe as EU lifts hunting ban This will undoubtedly have a detrimental impact on the future survival of the species despite a recent recovery. Like & share if you think the ban should be permanent! theguardian.com/environment/20…

I’ve reached the stage where I’m willing to just say it - she’s a complete dimwit They are preparing to break all the promises and do the trade deal on American terms - worsening food safety, undermining our welfare rules, and creating a farming race to the bottom

This isn’t even controversial Dogs on leads at lambing time (unless in a suitable place like your own garden) for their sake, and the pregnant and newborn sheep and cattle and ground-nesting birds For everyone’s sake, please use a lead

Weather-related risk becoming unsustainable for annual cropping IMO. No rain around here in two months. Getting close to a third disastrous harvest in a row if we don’t catch a rapid break. Incredibly fine margins between success & failure, mostly based on chance.

One of the best fields I have ever seen for arable flora. #Shepherdsneedle covered the whole field. I can only guess this is set-aside for a year. Seen in Alta Murgia, Puglia, Italy. #arableflora

❌ Despite strong cross-party support and passionate speeches from MPs, the Planning and Infrastructure Bill committee voted against the Chalk Stream Protection amendment. Chalk streams are one of our most special habitats and yet we are failing them.

A very nice 2nd year and 3rd year #advancedPARTRIDGEmix Oakbank Game on a farm on the Manhood peninsula near Chichester, UK, today Andrew Gentle. If you want to create high-quality year-round farmland wildlife habitat, this is the way to do it.

We’re not alone in this. We & the The Wildlife Trusts are united in calling for Part 3 to be scrapped. Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Steve Reed MP, Matthew Pennycook MP, Angela Rayner, The choice is yours. And it will be remembered by the millions of us who care about the natural world.

⚠️ Nature is at risk ⚠️ GOV.UK promised to protect nature. But it’s breaking that promise. Demand they scrap the part of the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill which threatens important wildlife protections.🗣️ Take action here wtru.st/3SkLinU #Planningbill

This fabulous 3-ha wildlife plot on a farm in South Yorkshire consists of several stages of the advanced #PARTRIDGEmix @Oakbank. The diversity of #farmlandbirds nesting in it right now is amazing, including sedge warbler, whitethroat, reed bunting, #greypartridge and skylark.

Footage sent from friends, Two female Sparrowhawks sharing incubation. I have heard of this happening before, I believe this is highly likely to be a female and a mature female daughter from previous years.
