Nothing frustrates me more than NIMBYS & their leftist allies on housing. It'd be easy to lower the cost of the biggest expense most Americans confront. The left's failure to understand the problem renders them not only unable to fix it but oppositional to those w solutions

Very excited to share a new project I've been working on. MCs have a statistically detectable preference for enforcing the separation of powers, but it is rarely big enough to affect their roll call vote choices. Very early project - open to all feedback!

The list of the fastest shrinking US cities since 2020 starts with some of the most economically depressed, violent, and and physically dilapidated places in the country. And of course San Francisco, the richest and most economically dynamic city in the world.

Fascinating survey work from Alex Hertel-Fernandez & co on the union vote in 2024, featuring an actual survey comparing union and non-union workers (including enough union workers to compare vote by the specific organization the respondent belonged to)

When primary AND general voters learn a candidate agrees with them on an issue, they're ~14 percentage points more likely to vote for that candidate. In generals, this includes when the closest candidate is an outpartisan–party loyalty isn’t everything.

Both anti-monopoly & abundance policies have mostly advanced via behind-the-scenes elite politics. It's not clear either would be more successful as dominant Dem messages. Successful campaign messages usually require diversity, localism, & responsiveness to changing concerns

Look at the difference between NorCal and SoCal. In the Bay, out of the 11 Senators repping urban areas, 8 voted yes. In LA County, out of 13 Senators only 4 voted yes. The LA delegation is killing housing bills.

Have gotten comments from gen z questioning the point of the American greeting ritual. I used to feel the same way in my first service jobs. I thought it was "fake," performative, extractive, "emotional labor" (though we didn't have that phrase). Here's how I changed my mind
