Local rent data is more relevant to you than national inflation press releases. In Berkeley, nobody wants old apartments, the prices are plunging, and the transaction volume is closing in on zero. This is the way YIMBYs always said 'filtering' would play out.

I heard Pod Save America talking this week about how “migrant bussing” by red states worked and made Dems more hostile to immigration, and I can’t think of a more damning indictment of liberal/progressive housing and infrastructure politics.

As LGBTQ YIMBYs we need to make sure Rafael Mandelman never wins higher office. His work to stop new housing that would welcome more people to the Castro specifically is shocking. Our community should be the most welcoming not the most exclusionary. Shame on him.

Requiring a conditional use permit to demolish any housing built before 1923, even if it has not been designated historic, will make it *much* harder to build housing in the neighborhoods shown in yellow and light orange on this map, notably including the Castro and North Beach.

NEW: a few days before Nate Cohn dropped his game-changing poll about 2024, we hosted him at UC Berkeley's Citrin Center for the 2023 Citrin Award Lecture.

We just posted the video, and it's well worth a watch:

Many proposals for AI regulation are either technically or institutionally infeasible or create tradeoffs between different regulatory objectives.  In a new paper, we consider the feasibility and alignment of disclosure, registration, licensing, and auditing proposals.

interesting set of findings in this really impressive paper on the low income housing tax credit, the now-dominant mechanism for subsidizing housing in the US. only 30% of the credit goes to households and developers would have likely built anyways

The EU-Mercosur trade agreement is in its final round - before being ratified or abandoned.
My analysis 'Trade and Trees', today accepted in AER:I, shows how a simple modification of the treaty can motivate forest conservation instead of deforestation:
