👏We applaud Transición Ecológica y Reto Demográfico for adding 1.7 million hectares to Spain’s marine protected areas –now covering 22.45% of national waters! Once management plans are in place, these sites will safeguard vulnerable species like cetaceans, corals, and deep-sea sharks europe.oceana.org/es/press-relea…

Consumers have the right to know what they eat. In the EU, restaurants, hotels & processed fish, such as tuna cans, don’t have to show: ❌ Species ❌ Where it was caught ❌ How it was caught We call on the EU for full transparency & traceability on all seafood. #FollowTheFish

If you buy fresh fish, you get key information: species, origin, method. But order seafood at a restaurant and you're left in the dark. M Luisa Alvarez B from FEDEPESCA demands that restaurants in the EU follow the same transparency rules fishmongers have for years. #FollowTheFish

IMO numbers play a key role in controlling vessels at sea and helping authorities to prevent illegal fishing. We urge General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean to make this identification information compulsory for all vessels longer than 15 metres since currently it's not. Learn more⤵️

Women's role in the fishing sector is often invisible but they are crucial in fish catching, processing and selling. This is the case in the EU but also where the EU fishes and imports fish from. We need to ensure better representation & inclusion of all women Vera Coelho
