Shekar Krishnan UBERTRUTH🚖🚕 Uber Mohammad Tipu Sultan NY Taxi Workers When will folks realize that #Uber does not, has not and never will care about anyone not on its Board Of Directors? Protest, cry and stamp your feet all you like. Flouting the law is what they do. Also, not a strike. EMPLOYEES strike. More of a work slowdown. @TaxiStandHour

A reminder that there are no “good” gig companies. Grubhub (in the US) is no better than DoorDash, and Lyft is no better than Uber. They all operate through pure, ugly exploitation of a majority people of color workforce—but with different branding.

Domingo, a Los Angeles–based Uber driver was just one ride away from a $100 bonus. That’s when he got stuck waiting for Uber’s algorithm to give him another ride. This wasn’t bad luck—it was an engineered outcome, explains Veena Dubal: lpeproject.org/blog/the-house…

Tonight I rode in a #yellowcab driven by a woman who had to take it up a year ago after her husband got sick. They have two special needs children, & she is the sole breadwinner. He bought a medallion in 2014 for 800000+. They owe 750 of it. She is a literal slave to a bank. #NYC

UBER/LYFT STRIKE -- Many Uber & Lyft drivers won't be picking up passengers flying into LaGuardia Airport Sun. PM. They're going on a 12-hr. strike to demand a pay raise. Uber spox says its drivers got 3 raises since 2020 including 6.39% in 2023. #1010WINS

Our taxi workers are essential. Uber suing to stop the law that gave them a long overdue pay raise is cruel. It's an insult to their dignity & sacrifices as workers. Solidarity with NY Taxi Workers on strike. We will keep fighting for the pay raise, and to stop unfair deactivations.

Isn’t it ironic that so many yellow drivers fled to Uber when it first came on the scene. Claiming oh this is so great so much freedom blah blah… it’s all the same.

Remember Uber can inflate their prices whenever they like. A London taxi remains at the same TfL Taxi & Private Hire metered rate, tube strike or not #uber #tubestrike #surgeprice

My ⁦Uber⁩ driver didn’t put two hands on the wheel, not even once, during a long and winding 30-minute trip yesterday. We almost crashed twice; one of the misses with an 18-wheeler that would have killed us both.

Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I’m working in a remote area, and I was worried that if I asked the driver to please put his hands on the wheel, he could end the trip and leave me stranded in the middle of a field. I was also worried that he could rate me down, affecting my future ability to book Uber rides.

I made it to my destination and safe and sound. I wanted a day to think about whether to report what happened, because I assume this young man needs the work. However, he’s risking his life and the life of others with his driving. So I contacted Uber by phone. It was bad.

Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Since Uber was recording me, I asked if I could also record the call. The first representative, who was routing calls, said it was fine. However, Tristan, the person who was supposedly there to help assure passenger safety, literally hung up on me.

First of all, lol. Second, this is why drivers need a union and a living wage, to have ONLY professional drivers on the road, not drummers who "Uber" on the side.

"NYC sold these medallions as investments and made millions. The "owners" never could pay the amts they were sold for. Once Uber & Lyft became 1st choice- medallions lost 2/3 of value. The City got its money and these drivers got the shaft." gothamist.com/news/nyc-taxi-…

Shame on you @uber. 4:40 a.m., request car to airport. 12 minute wait. 12 minutes later, 14 minute wait. Cancel. Try again. Price goes from $39 to $80. Sketchy AF.
