Vancouver General Hospital is a mess this morning. It's at surge level 2. A source says that means patients are being sent home. No one mops the floors. No one does beds. It's chaotic and wards packed like a can of sardines. Adrian Dix. Fix our hospitals. This can't go on!

1/2: Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners will be assigned to provide care in emergency departments, & more NPs will be added to emergency rooms. The province said PAs, under the supervision of a doctor, can care for up to 62% of all patients in emergency departments.

And while I'm all for efficiency...reducing staffing without a near term plan is shortsighted at best and dangerous at worst. A better tactic would be system level improvements first then slowly bridge to adjustments in staffing.
