Can not tell you how proud I am of our Hedge Hunters ๐ Today on the 1st day of #NationalHedgerowWeek we are launching our zine created by YP to educate others about the importance of the humble #Hedgerow Funded by Volunteen by Community VISION The Ernest Cook Trust @iwill_movement ๐ Josh Wolstenholme
Engaging communities in #NationalHedgerowWeek Why do we want to engage communities & young people in Hedge Hunters project? A thread on why doing this is best practice: 1st, we need to check our AI model against real data to ensure it's correctly ID'ing hedgerows/gaps (1/5)
We have worked with young people since the start to co-create & inform the academic team re best practice. Involvement evolved over time, allowing knowledge to grow & relationships to bloom. Parts of Hedge Hunters project are now completely youth-led (5/5)
The last day of #NationalHedgerowsWeek & we've saved the best news till last! Our Hedge Hunters decided to make a series of childrenโs story books to illustrate the animals & creatures that rely on Hedgerows, what are the problems they face and what we can do about it (1/4)
Our Hedge Hunters applied for a grant through the The Ernest Cook Trust green influencers scheme with Volunteen by Community VISION and were successful in being awarded enough to publish the first book and give a copy to all schools in Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire (2/4)
Through weekly sessions we have co-created a fun & engaging series of 15 books with Hedge Hunters. We are now proud to announce that the first book in the series is due out later this year. Introducing The Mystery of the Giant Claw (3/4)
As #NationalHedgerowWeek comes to a close, our Hedge Hunters have been working hard with Dr Katie Parsons ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐๐ช๐บ on a new illustrated storybook that is coming out very soon! Watch out for updates on our project page: hull.ac.uk/work-with-us/rโฆ
