Big thank you to the Bradford 2025 City of Culture team who helped us plant sphagnum moss on Ilkley Moor today as part of our moorland restoration/climate emergency work.

The current phase of #peatland restoration includes the creation of three new #dragonfly pools 💦🚧

These are for our #DragonInTheDales project funded by #SpeciesRecoveryProgramme which aims to translocate #WhiteFacedDarter Dragonfly populations to Swarth Moor

Introducing Swarth Moor!

We have an exciting project on Swarth Moor SSSI - a lowland raised bog in the Yorkshire Dales with a nationally rare lagg #fen habitat

The site is managed by Natural England and under restoration by Yorkshire Peat Partnership.

Nice to be able to host Froglife at the #LDV NNR Base last week for the first of this year's Great Crested Newt training courses, followed by a practical session on #SkipwithCommon NNR in the evening - recording egg laying, newts and demonstrating bottle trapping.

Would you like to get involved with our #DragonsInTheDales Project?

We are currently looking for a Peat #Dragonfly Monitoring volunteer 💚

You would be involved in helping monitor populations of Dragonflies and #Damselflies in some of Yorkshire’s #Peatland habitats.

Our team travelled over to Leven Carrs last week to help out Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with their exciting new project & the management of Juncus on site. In previous years we have supplied green hay & seed from the #LDV so it was really nice to be back & see how the site is developing.

The last of our series of walks as part of the Festival of NNRs in the #LDV in May will be guided by local birder Jono Leadley, who will be leading two walks around Wheldrake Ings on Sunday 26th (AM) & Wednesday 29th (PM). Ten spaces are available - get in touch to book yours 🐦

We’re pleased to announce that after last year's success another Festival of NNRs week will be running this year (20th-31st May), with a number of events planned in the #LDV inc. a series of guided walks around Wheldrake Ings & along the Pocklington Canal - details to follow🐦
