Absolutely horrendous news out of Sudan. There are no reporting restrictions in Sudan - and, in fairness, there are some brave journalists doing incredibly brave work trying to bring us these stories. So why aren’t our news bulletins full of them?

Really looking forward to this next chapter. It's been an absolute pleasure to guide Royal College of Midwives πŸ’™ comms & engagement over the past 6 years. I've had the support of an amazing team, who go beyond the extra mile to deliver for our members. I'm incredibly proud of all of them.

Some great speakers lined up for this. #Midwives and #MSWs have such an important role to play in supporting women and girls who have or are experiencing violence and domestic abuse. SafeLives

🚨 INVESTIGATION: Britain's maternity crisis has deeper roots, extending into the universities trusted to train the next generation of midwives. A majority are still promoting a normal birth ideology while women are more complex than ever: READ: thetimes.com/article/b4fe11…

Midwifery education sits in the overlap of higher education & maternity care; both facing great challenges. While most attention has been on clinical care, we’ve long called for more support for the education of MWs & those working in universities. Glad to see this attention πŸ‘

Key to the failings in midwifery education is the absent watchdog - Nursing and Midwifery Council has moved to self-assessment and outsourced assurance to a private company. Professional Standards Authority wrote to Wes Streeting in June highlighting serious concerns with NMC

This is your reminder DO NOT STOP your antidepressant/anti- anxiety/antipsychotic medication β€œjust because you are pregnant” This has to be carefully managed with the perinatal mental health teams Stephanie deGiorgio - give her a follow πŸ’•

Oh thank you so so much. At the moment, the vast majority of admissions of pregnant women are due to HCPs stopping women’s meds. This is NOT ok. It’s medical harm. If you don’t know what to do, ask for help.

45 years ago I made a pitch for the Director-General job. Didn’t get it – mind you, I was only 13. But I did get a reply from Ian Trethowan, who was DG at the time. All these years later I’m proud to work for the BBC.

A real honour to deliver the keynote address at the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare annual conference this morning, looking over the year of advances achieved in women's reproductive health. Always more to do though Jo Tanner (@thatJoTanner on BSky)
