Contrary to the Free Speech Ireland declaration, the university as an institution should involve itself in politics. For example, academia cut ties with Russia, and should do the same with Israel. By being neutral, the university is already taking a position.

I want to remind all those spineless academics who claim neutrality as students are suspended & criminalized that their indifference is a political position, one aligned with dominant interests. Your neutrality equates to complicity. You are part of the problem.

Solidarity with students Columbia University, those who demanded justice for Palestine, who called on their university, to which they pay fees, to divest from apartheid.

Shame on staff who claim radical politics & stayed away.

And shame on management who called in cops to arrest them.

While nearly 500 managers and senior academics earn upwards of 100k, PhDs are forced to live below minimum wage.

And that amount is enough to give over 1,500 PhDs a living wage.

Just found this article now. 490 staff members at Trinity College Dublin earn six figure sums, while at the other end of the scale, hourly-paid lecturers can earn less than €7000/year for what the university considers a full teaching load.
