The Norman Font was built by Abbot Joffrid in the 12th century. The surround and vaulted roof were added in the 15th century. This is an immersion font composed of three segments of stone and capable of holding 25 gallons of water.

Last Friday, our Level 3 Animal Studies students took a day out to support Exotic Pet Refuge in Deeping St James, a local animal charity.

Students were able to help build enrichment, improve enclosures and feed the exotic reptiles. 🐍

Among the many figures in the alcoves on the west front of Crowland Abbey is Waltheof, Earl of Huntingdon - bottom left of my photo. Walthoef’s wife was the niece of William the Conqueror, that didn’t stop him rebelling though.

Guthlac, bottom left, the ancient founder of Crowland Abbey in Lincolnshire is said to have been a Saxon nobleman who turned to fighting and then to the church to atone for his bloodletting ways. He arrived in the marshy wastes of Crowland in 699.
