Academic Exit While many are commenting on whether or not it's more common in academia, a key distinction is that it's usually a bigger deal when it does arise, since it's much harder to escape (to find a new job as faculty or a new advisor as a student), whereas avg turnover in tech is 18mo.

Academic Exit I have found this toxicity to be highly compartmentalized and targeted. The real problem is that the schools are highly organized to maintain it, even to the detriment of their public reputation, because there is no overarching accountability. Tenure rules apply..
