What a fascinating article about another very complex urban challenge. We urgently need to develop properly integrated urban planning, management and maintenance strategies.

Grateful for the support from Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The 15-minute city aligns with UN-Habitat's vision for sustainable urbanization. Pre-order my book: bit.ly/4c2O1Lg Wiley

Unlocking more large brownfield sites is key to delivering on Labour’s commitment to 1.5 million homes over five years.

A pleasure to be in Lincoln with Hamish Falconer For Lincoln and councillors today to discuss how we could supercharge the city’s ambitious Western Growth Corridor project.

Under last The Labour Party Gov, a role of reg planning was to identify barriers to strategic b'field sites & work with the GO & RDA to unblock. It needed strategic planners to identify & prioritise the sites, arrange fund streams & co-ordinate the diff partners (incl developers).

Breaking: Labour will force a debate on mad, unravelling, Conservative plans for RAF Scampton. They will have to explain why they are costing Lincoln Β£300 million of private investment for a plan they know, the NAO knows, and we know, won't work. 1/2

I appreciate that we need to make homes energy-efficient, but not like this.
Let’s concentrate more on getting both buildings and the places they contribute to right - making sure they work well, feel right and look good (all three simultaneously).

Is this another example of the new silly Part O Building Regulations making homes less nice and windows smaller to no purpose? It looks like it.

The windows on the left are the communal stairwell. We suspect they originally intended to use the same windows for the flats on the…

An example of the myth that competition solves all problems. Great places (& their transport systems) develop mostly through collaboration - sometimes formal and immediate: sometimes informal and across generations. Competition plays a part, but collaboration makes the difference

Trams have huge potential to transform urban streets, to make them calmer, cleaner, greener and both more efficient and more sociable. Lighter-touch, lower-cost solutions like this are just what’s needed - particularly for smaller cities.

Best of both worlds: a city where people use both trams (streetcars) and bicycles.

One problem: the tracks can be a real hazard, esp. for bikes with thin tires.

Now, in is reducing...
