Shocking behaviour from the media yet again with their witch hunt on Angela Rayner 🌹. Well done Yvette Cooper for trying to talk about what most people are actually interested/worried about.

Amazing trip to Highgate Cemetery today with big sis Marguerite Kaye - highlights included Malcolm McLaren, Karl Mark and George Michael's graves - I shed a tear at George's grave!

We looked at Wisley back in Surrey structure plan & then in the SE plan - we ruled it out both times because of its unsustainable location. This is what happens when you don't have strategic planning & end up with least worst sites & not most sustainable thetimes.co.uk/article/399262…

Finally got to see about Sheffield's Park Hill Housing Estate through the decades. As a planner with a keen interest in politics & a fan of richardhawley this was brilliant!

Time for a grown-up debate about GB - how we review it (strategically), where we should prioritise affordable housing & how we can make GB more 'green' - sweat it's assets. Well done The Labour Party Matthew Pennycook MP for getting this vital debate started.

Huge underperformance in housing delivery by Homes England since 2020 - 60% fewer homes unlocked than intended in 22/23.

Whitehall had created rigid programmes that didn’t adapt fast enough to turbulent market conditions:

Lots of chatter recently about strategic planning & what a new system might look like. For us to look beyond the political idealogy & rhetoric we so often hear, we need to have an honest discussion about what did and didn't work in the past-here is a summary of my experience.

The housing crisis can be solved, but the next govt must put an end to short-term thinking.

Ahead of we are calling for a long-term 🏠

Just one year of building the 90,000 social rented homes our country needs, would add over £50billion to the UK economy.

This is really good from gabyhinsliff - and the second mainstream media piece in a week that has treated planning for housing as a serious issue, not reducible to simplistic slogans. Here’s hoping it’s a sign. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

A good assessment of the challenges around GB & the increasing need to maximize the wider benefits of places like the Colne Valley Park. We must find a way of managing the Metropolitan GB around London better, including reviewing it colnevalleypark.org.uk/what-we-need-i…
