So the long overdue Wye Plan is out
Finally full acknowledgment of the role intensive agri has played in trashing the river
But one of the main recommendations of the plan is to…create a plan
And many actions are vague or “subject to consultation”
I fear we have been here before

This is interesting! A solution to protect the Hogsmill in Ewell from pollution. I don't really get how it works tho. Simon Collins Green Cllr Scott - hoping you can explain it? Could it be replicated? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Overnight, Russia fired more than forty missiles and about forty drones at Ukraine.

I thank everyone engaged in recovery efforts after the attack, as well as to every warrior of our air defense system who was on guard last night.

Popped to Earlswood Lakes yesterday and saw these floating barley straw bales on the lower lake. Installed by the Environmental Agency - the idea is as they sink, they decompose to oxygenated the water, surpress the algae and improve the water quality for the wildlife. Cool eh?

The US has set new legal PFAS limits for drinking water:

PFOA (def carcinogen): 4ng/l
PFOS (prob carcinogen): 4ng/l
PFHxS: 10ng/l
PFNA: 10ng/l
GenX chems: 10ng/l

The UK? 100ng/l as a 'guideline'. 👀

Eels: they're not the supermodels of the aquatic world but they are amazing, with a life cycle spanning continents, & they are critically endangered, along with Atlantic salmon whose diet eels form an important part of. ZSL are doing vital work to restore eel numbers.

Record-breaking sea surface temperatures in the North Atlantic help breed record-breaking upper air masses and this looks to be the case for southern France over the weekend when 850 hPa temperatures of 17/18C look to arrive. As a result, 30C looks likely to be reached there.

Fieldwork was utterly essential for me to gain Geographical skills & knowledge. I went to Bala North Wales during A levels having never really ventured into the countryside. It was a life changing experience to see glacial tills & a natural river! 💚🙂

This video is fascinating. The driver of a car in gets warning of an and takes appropriate action, stopping in a rockfall shelter. And what a good job they did, as rockfalls inundated the road.
Early warning systems save lives, so long as you have a plan.

Easy to be churlish (and I often am) but it is preferable that water company fines go to funding environmental improvements rather than back to Treasury.

Of course it relies on rivers being polluted, isn’t enough and is bill payers money but hey ho!

If, like me, you live in a city, soil eroded from maize fields may not be the 1st river pollution issue that comes to mind - but it's huge - as Peter explains better than me, soil clogs up clean gravels fish need to lay eggs in + soil can contain pesticides that kill off insects.
