As a child I had kidney disease so was in bed a lot. One of my favourite toys was a puzzle, long lost. For two decades, on and off, I’ve searched for it. Saw one ten years ago: sold days before. Weep. On Tuesday I found it again.£12.90. Was terrified it would be incomplete. #joy

There’s always a delicious shiver at walking beneath these twisted, mossy trees into the deeper darkness. Padley Gorge is a place that never fails to draw me in, just a bit further, just to the next corner, and the next. I stay out far too long with the crows and the shadows.

A lovely naturalistic scene of birds and a butterfly in a papyrus thicket, carved by a skilled ancient Egyptian artisan some 4,500 years ago. The limestone relief was originally painted. Faint traces of colour survive - see papyrus umbrel bottom right. This panel once adorned

On Sycamore Hill grows this absolute giant of a tree, perfectly formed, the sort of tree a child would draw if asked to draw a tree. Of course it helps that he stands on his own podium and is approached via a rustic gate in a meadow of wildflowers. He deserves nothing less.

My new rose bush is thriving. It was in the sort of Woops section of the garden centre and looking a bit sad. The colour is so beautiful. My rescue rose makes me happy.

The leaves soften, the bracken rusts, the sunrise ticks later. The change seems to happen imperceptibly, but walk along a lane untrodden for a while, and there it is. The air is thicker, as if Nature is holding her breath and watching the slow fade of green to gold alongside you.

Deep in a sunflower field, wading through a forest of stems, looking right into their huge disc faces, intoxicated by the scent. #sunflowers #sunshine #joy

Just been out with the UV torch h and found another fluorescing Eyed Hawk-moth caterpillar. This one looks like something had laid purple eggs on it? Fascinating! Quite a bizarre sight, but poor caterpillar… ⁦British Moths⁩ ⁦John Walters
