Just 14 of 10 last night in the Broadwey traps, but the FFY's keep coming. Chocolate-tip, Peppered Moth and White Ermine.

Weymouth: I have a huge Field Maple at the end of the garden and Mocha are quite regular here. This one has to be the best I've ever seen though, a complete stunner.

Sneak preview... the ones sitting outside the moth trap. Clouded border, pine beauty, swallow prominent and brown silver-lines. Looking promising! πŸ’š DorsetWildlife Trust Dorset Wildlife Trust

Weymouth: The moth trap still dire for numbers so this Dewick's Plusia was a surprise, I'm pretty certain its my earliest ever. More proof I guess that they are now breeding locally.

A couple of moths from today. A Mompha divisella found in the conservatory and a Nettle-tap on Lodmoor this afternoon. The new vernacular of Hourglass Mompha makes perfect sense when you look at it like this! The Nettle-tap is on a Dandelion for an idea of size.

Weymouth: completely taken aback to turn over an egg tray and find this Frosted Green in the trap today. There appear to be no previous Weymouth/Portland records and is obviously a first for here. No doubt a wanderer from well inland.

My first April foray of the year at the Cold Harbour office produced a measly 10/5, including a fresh batch of (6) Brown Silver-line & a lone Ypsolopha mucronella Dorset Moths

Surprisingly, this Shoulder Stripe found on the wall this morning was my first record of the species at the Cold Harbour office in the five years that I've been trapping here! Dorset Moths

Weymouth: moth trap still quiet, Lunar Marbled Brown and Shuttle-shaped Dart were nfy. A new garden micro though in the form of Dichrorampha acuminatana. Not rare by any means but they all count!

Weymouth: a proper upturn in numbers with 23 sp in one trap. Highlight was this Radford's Flame Shoulder, my first spring record. I'm not sure if they've been caught on Portland recently?

A truly beautiful moth to greet me in my trap this morning. It is a migrant , fairly common around the Mediterranean and North Africa -a Striped Hawkmoth.
