Tonight I have authorised Defence to provide support to Queensland Police to assist with air evacuations from flood affected areas. Two helicopters have been tasked from Amberley and will join the effort. It is a dangerous situation unfolding, please take care on our roads.

The flooding in Queensland has continued to escalate significantly overnight & the situation in many areas of south east Qld is serious & life threatening. The Australian Defence Force is undertaking a rescue mission in support of Queenslanders trapped by rising flood water.
