Improvement toolkits & good practice databases are useful but they only take us so far. As much as 80% of the knowledge in an organisation isn't written down. It's not a failure of documentation. it's to do with the nature of the knowledge and the way it gets spread. That's why

Oh no. A royal commission would be just another way of avoiding action. The problems in #socialcare are clear and so are the solutions; what’s lacking is the political will. The Labour Party has a majority of 172 seats. It should use it to begin long-term reform. thetimes.com/article/1bd906…

We welcome the appointment of Sir Stephen Timms, who has a deep understanding of Carer's Allowance and the many problems it causes unpaid carers. The system must be overhauled and we look forward to working with him on this. theguardian.com/politics/artic…

The government’s abandonment of the #socialcare funding reforms, despite Wes Streeting’s pre-election assurances, is deeply disappointing if unsurprising. We should be wary of rushing to judgement after barely a month in power, but.......1/

⁦ “social care services seem built around an imaginary 1950s extended family, who all live round the corner from each other and have a full-time housewife at their heart, free to pop in every lunchtime and cheerfully put a wash on.” ⁦Ageing Without Children⁩ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I think social care policy, rather than ‘services’ defaults to this idea (an idea hardwired into the post War welfare state generally) - that family will ‘care’ unless or until it can’t, hence 6 million unpaid carers & only 800k people drawing in publicly funded social care

thanks Richard Ageing Without Children have been saying for the last 10 years that designing social care around family in the 21st century is unworkable placing but it’s a message like so many around #socialcare that governments of all political persuasions don’t want to hear.

To date, we have handed out over x100 'gifts of kindness' to people returning from hospital, and clients who are isolated and lonely. Thank you Letter Box Hamper and our Community Hubs for making this possible - kindness at this time still shines brightly!

I hear 3 main reasons for the fall in #socialcare workers visa numbers announced today: 1) the ban on dependents 2) requirement for sponsors to be CQC registered 3) tougher on-the-ground approach to granting licences. 1/3

Unpaid carers already provide most of the care in the country. The government needs to act now to meet the challenges of today and prepare for the challenges of tommorow.

I’ve just signed a petition asking Environment Minister, Steve Reed to save bees. Bee killing pesticides are banned across the country but the previous govt approved an emergency license for sugar beat crops.Labour cannot do the same, please add your name. act.gp/422uRR8
