Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, recently returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge!

The beloved Laysan albatross, or mōlī, is in her 70s now and was first spotted last Friday by a volunteer.

The Isle of May has seen a good number of young Guillemot chicks leave the island in recent days, heading out to the open sea with their fathers, like the one in the video. The full story is on the blog: isleofmaynnr.wordpress.com

Kittiwakes generally rear one or two chicks on the Isle of May but we see a few broods of three.

These chicks have a way to go before fledging but so far so good.

First proper westerly wind in ages. Recording sheets tied down, hat stapled to head, binoculars rammed in eye sockets. But the Razorbills are wind dancing a metre away. The best auk, surely? Discuss The Seabird Group UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology David Steel Former NatureScot account RSPB

Night time influx of Manx Shearwaters on Skomer Island captured on thermal imaging camera 👌

Incredible scenes watching thousands of Manx shearwaters coming in under the cover of darkness, an amazing sight - thanks to our guest Ben for a go on his thermal scope 😍

And we a-GO with season 2023! 🥳
They've been whizzing around for a couple of days but only now has the first one truly come home: the male of box 1. He has been with us since 2016 and is at least 9 years old.
These birds blow my mind. Where has he been these past months?

Another swim under the starling flight path on Monday. It seems like nothing will happen for ages, then they burst out of the West Pier in small groups, hugging the water all the way to the Palace Pier for a quick dance before bedtime.
