Memories of a lifetime watching the Grey Phalarope at Rutland Water dabbling around inches from me in the evening light yesterday.

Had a blast watching this adult Little Tern at Holme Pierrepont last night, a really rare autumn bird here in Notts, and not a plumage I seen much of too. Convinced these birds run on a nuclear reactor, so much energy. Thanks again to Alan_HP_Notts for the find. Notts Birdwatchers

The juvenile Dotterel at Houndkirk showed ludicrously well yesterday evening, taking a particular liking to my camera lens… What a bird!

Stanford Reservoir - another quality couple of hours on the patch. 3 Glossy Ibis briefly, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, 8 Little Egret & Black-necked Grebe. Birds of Leicestershire & Rutland Stanford_RG. Poor record images of the Ibis through a hedge and fence!

Stanford Reservoir - the 3 Glossy Ibis arrived from their roost at 06.30 and fed for 30 mins before flying off as they did yesterday. Such a great bird to have on the patch. Birds of Leicestershire & Rutland

Nice morning bird ringing at Marston STW with a nice variety of birds. Three Cetti's Warblers, Water Rail, Kingfisher and Snipe shown, plus another Moorhen colour ringed for Aurora #LicencedBirdRinger for her project.

Very memorable views of the juvenile Baird’s Sandpiper at Rutland Water yesterday, hours of lying in goose droppings was well worth it.

Swifts are one of many species in rapid decline because of human activity. If we don't act, the time will come when they no longer return to our towns and villages. I'm backing the campaign to get Swift Bricks in new builds and bring back hope for these brilliant birds. 🪶

Cracking views of the Snow Bunting at Beacon Hill CP around lunchtime, especially when it wasn’t being flushed or chased by loose dogs 😬

Beacon Hill CP, L&R - Snow Bunting showed well this AM (thanks to B Ingram for finding). My first since 2018 but there was one at the same site in Dec 2023 which I didn’t see. Birds of Leicestershire & Rutland

Feels like you spend so much of the year looking for scarcer species, that you almost forget to make the most of some of our resident birds. Crossbills galore in the forest country of Nottinghamshire yesterday, love winter birding here.
