The Rwanda gimmick was announced in April 2022. Since then, 3 home secretaries and hundreds of millions of ยฃs have been sent to Kigali, whilst the total chaos in the Channel has gone from bad to worse. And Sunak is asking you to vote for him because his plan is working...??? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

7 years to prepare for these new checks, yet Govt has failed to do groundwork.

Ministers have failed to approve ยฃ45m for vital improvements at Dover, & admit digital app won't be ready or solve problem.

They must get a grip or holidaymakers & workers will be stuck in queues.

Justice delayed is justice denied โ€“ and it has taken far too long to get to this point.

The UK Government must set out details of the compensation scheme without delay.

On the day that the Infected Blood Inquiry publishes its final report, I pay tribute to campaigners like my constituent David Farrugia, my colleague Diana Johnson DBE MP ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒˆ, and all the victims and their families who have fought so hard for justice, never giving up.

The infected blood scandal has caused decades of suffering. My constituents, along with all the victims and their families, have campaigned for justice but itโ€™s taken far too long and is long overdue, justice must not be delayed any further.

This week I presented a petition to the House of Commons on behalf of residents in Aberavon. The petition called on the Government to get on with implementing the recommendations of Sir Brian Langstaffโ€™s Second Interim Report of the Infected Blood Inquiry, without delay.

We're cancelling the headline-chasing Rwanda gimmick because it's unaffordable, unworkable & unlawful.

Instead Labour will deliver a new Border Security Command.

We'll also end asylum hotel use - & create a new Returns Unit to speed up removals of those with no right to be here

Labour's Border Security Command will form part of Keir Starmer's 6 first steps for change.

Here's my BBC Newsnight interview setting out why it's so important...

On Monday I visited a hotel housing asylum seekers - and spoke with Islington Council about the challenges they face.

Labour is determined to fix the broken asylum system - to save the taxpayer ยฃbillions, improve mental health of refugees, & take pressure off hard-working councils.

Labour's new Border Security Command will increase the capacity and powers of those keeping our border safe - going after the criminal smuggler gangs that the Conservatives have allowed to take hold.

It will be funded by cancelling the unworkable & unaffordable Rwanda gimmick.

Tories again say one thing but do another.

In contrast, Labour has fully-costed policies for our new Border Security Command with hundreds of offices & specialist investigators, our plan to end asylum hotel use, and our new Returns Unit to remove people with no right to be here.

Discussions covered a range of key issues, from Ukraine to China to trade and development. The US is a vitally important partner and ally, and it is vital that we build and strengthen the special relationship.
