Devastating news that Tata Steel are pressing ahead with the Government’s plans to close both blast furnaces in Port Talbot triggering thousands of job losses.

With other options on the table, and with an uncertain future, Labour urges Tata not make any irreversible decisions.

Rob Rickhuss, the general secretary of the Community union, described Tata's plans at its biggest UK plant as 'reckless' and said the company should 'do the right thing.'

Shocking Tory failure on law & order in new figures out today

▪️37% increase in shoplifting to record high
▪️7% increase in knife crime - now up 81% in 8yrs
▪️13% increase in robbery
▪️90% of crimes go unsolved

Under the Tories, more criminals get off, more victims let down.

.Jo Stevens is spot on: for 14 years UK Tory govts have treated our steel industry with casual indifference, and now they’re spending £500 million of taxpayers’ money on making thousands of steelworkers redundant. We need Labour’s bold plan for steel, and we need it now.

The current plan put forward by Tata Steel UK is reckless.

We've got a better Multi-Union plan that's backed by the experts, and Tata need to back it to.

It's not too late for Tata to make the right choice for our industry and our members.

Rwanda Act has passed, but Sunak says he needs *10-12 weeks* to get flights off.

And y'day he admitted that 'success is when the boats have been stopped' - but we know small boats are up 24% this year, & his £570m Rwanda scheme will cover <1%!

He really should stop the boasts.

Another terrible tragedy in the Channel - including a young child. Criminal smuggler gangs are profiting from putting lives in peril in dangerous boats - they must be stopped before more lives are lost

Sunak claims Rwanda Bill is 'emergency legislation'.

Yet he had plenty of chances to pass it before Easter – or to just accept Afghans who supported our armed forces shouldn’t be sent there.

Now he says flights won’t go off until... July! – “10-12 weeks” from now. What a farce.

Labour’s plan will boost our border security & fix the Tory asylum chaos;
▪️new cross border police w new powers to crack down on criminal gangs
▪️new fast track system to clear backlog, end asylum hotels
▪️new Returns & Enforcement Unit to reverse the near 50% drop in returns /4

Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda scheme is costing over £500m to send just 300 people - less than 1% of asylum seekers, with no plan for the 99%.

Tory policy is just an extortionate election gimmick instead of a serious plan.

Labour’s plan will boost our border security instead /1

Lord Des Browne's amdt to the Rwanda Bill will exempt those who served with our Armed Forces from being sent to Rwanda.

The Afghans who served shoulder to shoulder with us deserve our respect and gratitude.

Don't just take my word for it👇🏼

Labour has a plan to tackle the price hikes facing small businesses, by seeking to negotiate a veterinary agreement with the EU to reduce the need for checks, making food cheaper and supporting our importers.

Privately damning of the Rwanda Plan:

- Current Prime Minister
- Current Home Secretary
- British Foreign Office

Privately overjoyed at the Rwanda Plan:

- The Rwandan Govt who will receive £570m for just 300 asylum seekers.

A sham, a con and a rip-off.

The rule of law is a fundamental British value.

The Tories have called into question our country’s commitment to it.

It is high time that politicians stand up for the independence of the judiciary.

Labour will scrap the Tories' shoplifter's charter that encourages the police not to investigate thefts under £200.

And we will bring in a Community Policing Guarantee, with 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs to crackdown on shoplifting and keep the public safe.
