SD Wildland Fire is at the 2-day 8th Grade Career Fair in Rapid City searching for future wildland firefighters! An estimated 1,800 students from Rapid City middle schools and nearby communities are involved. SDWF staff met with students about a career in wildland firefighting.

SD Wildland Fire and the Bureau of Indian Affairs teamed up to speak to over 200- 8th graders at Pine Ridge High School . Students learned about great career opportunities in wildland fire and observed a matchstick forest demo to explain fuels management and why it is important.

SDWF drone pilots recently gathered for training. These high-tech drones help firefighters with aerial imagery, mapping fire perimeters & an infrared camera which can detect hot spots in need of extinguishing. It’s 1 more way SDWF uses tech in modern firefighting to #KeepSDsafe.

Thank you, donors! Community response nearly doubled the goal for the inaugural Pistols and Pulaskis Blood Drive in Rapid City. 49 lifesaving units of blood were collected! Goal was 27. The friendly competition between SDWF & SDHP is expected to be an annual November tradition.
