The last time my wife (Becky) had a birthday that coincided with Election Day was in 2008 — when Barack Obama was elected President. Today is another such coinciding day, so let’s hope that the force (or karma, if you prefer) remains with her!

3 key health care election take-aways: the Affordable Care Act will not be repealed; Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will not be cut; and Medicaid will continue to be expanded.

MEDICAID TO MOVE FORWARD: Referenda to expand the program won in Idaho, Nebraska, and Utah. A Democrat is now Governor of Maine, which will allow that successful referendum to move forward. And Gubernatorial wins in Kansas and Wisconsin may help as well.

In 2010, BEFORE THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT WAS IMPLEMENTED, Republicans won the House based on repudiation of the legislation. In 2018, NOW THAT IT IS BEING IMPLEMENTED, the Democrats flipped the House based on strong support of the program.

After the Affordable Care Act was enacted, it was challenged as being unconstitutional because IT CONTAINED A MANDATE TO GET COVERAGE. That challenge lost. Now the same opponents say it is unconstitutional because IT DOES NOT HAVE SUCH A MANDATE. It’s grasping at legal straws!

20 million people could lose health coverage. Over 100 million with some form of pre-existing health condition could lose insurance protections. This is what ACA opponents, like President Trump, are celebrating about the lower court ruling in Texas. SHAME, SHAME!

These so-called “waivers” are not truly waivers. Given the Administration’s promotion of doing this on a wholesale basis in many states, it is an illegal attempt to change Medicaid without congressional approval!

Go get ‘em, Ben! Your leadership in Wisconsin will not only be terrific for the State, but it can have a profound national impact!

On this 9th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, we should celebrate the enormous number of people (approx 20 million) who gained health coverage, AND we should re-dedicate ourselves to finishing the job of covering everyone else (like the approx 29 million still uninsured).

DONALD TRUMP RENEWS HIS ATTACK ON HEALTHCARE: By asking a federal court to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he seeks to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing health conditions and eliminate health coverage for many millions of people. The man knows no shame!

Trump said Repubs will soon be known as “the party of health care.” It’s true: he is taking away health coverage for tens of millions of people; harming people with pre-existing conditions; decimating Medicaid; and increasing families’ out-of-pocket costs. An enviable reputation?

Hallelujah: work requirements as condition for getting Medicaid in Arkansas and Kentucky have been declared illegal. These work requirements have nothing to do with helping people gain jobs and everything to do with cutting tens of thousands of people from health coverage.

WORTH SHARING: Go see/hear the movie “Amazing Grace,” featuring an hour-and-one-half of the incomparable Lady Soul, Aretha Franklin, singing soul-gospel music during a 2-day church concert in 1972. Her voice and presence are beyond unique! Find this movie!
