Disastrous Resumption of Damaging Abstraction in the Upper R. Chess Association Abstraction reductions in 2020 have now been reversed by the Environment Agency, having secretly negotiated a costly & ill-conceived resumption of abstraction with Affinity Water 🦆.

We have reported this to Three Rivers District Council they are taking action. When I visited the site this morning there was less flow but it was still a problem. The invasive non-native Demon shrimp (Dikerogammarus haemobaphes) has been confirmed on the River Dun. Our trained riverfly monitors at this site riverfly site reported this large shrimp in their sample. We got the specimen under a microscope and liaised with the Environment Agency who..

Great woodland walk today in the R. Chess Association valley spotting these wildflowers taking advantage of a newly opened canopy, not just the light it’s also the warmth this fallen beech provides. Chilterns National Landscape Chiltern Woods So pleased to have a botanist with us.
Normally aquatic invertebrates get my attention but this evening it was crickets & grasshoppers. Seen to be out in huge numbers on the water meadows on the River Chess. Reverting arable to grass might have helped. R. Chess Association Buglife Chilterns National Landscape
