What would a community-powered NHS look like? Our new grid sets out the limits of traditional state & market paradigms that dominate health provision. A new community paradigm puts people at the heart of healthcare, centring communities, not services & people, not professionals.

ONS stats on drug deaths show the complexity of the tragedy. Heroin deaths down - methadone, cocaine, benzos up. Huge regional variation but roughly correlated to deprivation. Age an issue - but healthcare access more so. Treatment services need to evolve to meet changing needs.

Inequalities in health begin early in life, where we see disparities between poorer and more affluent communities in levels of infant mortality, low birthweight, childhood obesity, tooth decay and adverse childhood experiences. #healthinequalities

Modelling/anticipating where the cost of living crisis will impact is not easy. Thankfully we have a talented team including Dr Richard Wood NHS BNSSG ICB Analytics who have given it a good go. Mental health stands out as an area for concern. #PHM

Really looking forward to sharing a platform and sharing ideas with ⁦Zoe Rice⁩ and ⁦@AnnaCharlesKF⁩ this afternoon. #integratedcare #widerdeterminants #healthcare #systemsthinking eventbrite.co.uk/e/treatment-re…

Insightful overview from @AnnaCharlesKF on ICSs, noting they have been "born into a political and economic storm" But local commitment to the reforms remains strong, particularly around reducing inequalities and improving population health.

Kevin Crowley Kevin Crowley now digging into the complexity of integrated care systems from a treatment and recovery perspective. Notes there are numerous "hard" leverage points (combatting drugs partnerships etc.) but "soft" leverage through relationships remains key

Great to hear from Zoe Rice that despite the "born in a storm" reality of ICSs there is will and energy at NHS Bristol, N Somerset & S Gloucestershire ICB to make the most of the convergence of the Dame Carol Black review, the Drug Strategy and funding to improve system response and integration

One in 20 hospital admissions are alcohol related.   Alcohol and drug dependency share common features. A whole system approach is needed to tackle both addictions.   The Public Accounts Committee discussion was important and I was glad to be part of it.
